H20 Protector is the result of painstaking research carried out by Olmetex. It is a unique and exclusive fabric whose peculiarity is a natural resistance to water. This is a 100% cotton fabric which is developed from selected long staple yarns which, when given extra twists and woven into a tight compact weave, produces a very high degree of water repellency. On contact with water, the yarns expand and, due to the nature of the weave, the fabric repels water unlike any other. This product is the result of the studies by a group of experts (commissioned by Olmetex) who travelled to some of the most inaccessible places in the world. With their observations of the modes of dress of the Eskimo and the Sherpa, among others, they have been able to achieve a fabric that is not only water repellent, but is breathable, silent, comfortable and above all completely natural in 100% cotton. In a modern world where all is fast moving, transient and high-tech, a real traditional fabric like H20 Protector should be a MUST for all of us.

H2O PROTECTOR, the thinking fabric.

H20 Protector® is a clever fabric that responds to humidity. It is tightly woven using long staple fibres which are twisted more than is usual to make a dense fabric. When in contact with water the fabric expands and stiffens, repelling water and other liquids; the fibres return to their original softness once dry. The weaving process also uses 30% more yarn than in a traditional fabric, making it highly wind proofed as well. For these reasons H20 Protector® is a natural fibre in 100% cotton that in terms of breathability-protection has no competition.

H20 Protector® is a natural yet performing fabric and for this reason it is suitable both
for daily use and for extreme situations.

Water
The single layer of H20 Protector® offers a very good daily protection. When used in a double layer form it implements the performances and gives an extended protection in extreme circumstances.

Wind and snow
The cotton density gives H20 Protector® an excellent resistance to the wind and snow.

Silence
H20 Protector® is a silent fabric, perfect for outdoor activities.

Air
H20 Protector® is by nature highly breathable and remains dry inside. Therefore gaps in the garments, under the arms etc are not necessary and would jeopardize the water repellency of the product.

Comfort
In normal conditions H20 Protector® is soft and is easy to wear.

Reliability
H20 Protector® is tested to guarantee an excellent tear-resistance and longstanding protection in all climate conditions.

For top effectiveness.

Protect H20 Protector® from acids, bleach and detergents. In case of contact with any of these, immediately rinse the fabric in cold water.

Brush the fabric to get rid of sands, little stones or anything abrasive which in the long run could jeopardize the water repellency of H20 Protector®.

Wash H20 Protector® according to the suggested procedure:

  • get rid of sand and little stones by brushing or sponging the fabric
  • close pockets and zips
  • turn the garment inside out
  • wash with soap
  • rinse several times to remove all traces of soap, reshape garment on hanger to dry, carefully avoid direct exposure to the sun
  • do not bleach
  • dry cleaning is possible.

Reproofing Should the fabric in the long run reduce its water repellency, it may need reproofing, in this case please use H20 Protector® reproofing Kits.

The design that make
the most of performance.

H20 Protector® is a fabric very resistant to water but performance, once the garment is made up, depends on the type of garment, its style, its manufacture and components. The “variables“ that influence the fabric are several: the type and quality of the seams, the yarn used for the seams, the zips used, the use of zip-covers, the use of pockets and their position in the garment, the use of buttons, the effect of lining and interlining.

For this reason the tests done by Olmetex are not enough.

It is necessary to carry out wearer trials of the garment in the rain and in different rain-conditions and for predetermined lengths of time.

Three suggestions to get the maximum effectiveness:

  1. Reduce to the minimum the seams on the shoulders placing them more on the front and on the back of the garment
  2. All pocket openings should be covered by flaps
  3. Use zip-covers that in addition to their protection will also embellish the style of the garment.
